JAKUB JANDA - THE FIRST CZECH FIS WINNER OF THE SEASON 2005-2006
|
Triumphal successes of Jakub Janda in season 2005-06 |
The way from the first start of Jakub Janda in world cup championship in Harrachov in 1996 up to overall victory in this prestigious serial on March 19, 2006 in Planica (Slovenia) wasn't easy. Jakub thought many times about his professional carrier, he doubted it and wanted even to stop it, but his internal obstinacy and endurance succeeded and Jakub could step up finally to the top. Experiencing all the doubts and problems Jakub could prove himself, that his decision to devote his present life to ski jump was right.
Jakub won his world cup's first points in Lahti in 1997 and he stepped the winner's podium after a long 6-years waiting as he finished third during the home WC-competition in Liberec.
2004 represented a big change in his career. Vasja Bajc, the new trainer from Slovenia waked in Jakub his snoozing talent and Jakub became world class sportsman under his guide. He won the first competition in Neustadt, Germany on January 23, 2005 and became so after 11 years the first Czech sportsman, who won gold medal during WC-competition. During the world championship in Oberstdorf in 2005 he won the silver medal on the middle hill und the bronze medal on the big hill. He placed 6th in the final ranking of season 2004/05.
Summer season came after the successful winter and Jakub won Grand Prix. He wrote the history of Czech ski jumping for the first time as he is the first Czech who made it.
The winter season 2005/06 did start no less successfully. Jakub won directly the beginning competition and from this moment onwards he dressed the yellow jersey of the world cup leader. He prepared a very nice present for all his fans winning as Czech the home WC-competition in Harrachov which happened after long 11 years.
There followed four competitions of WC included into the Four Hills Tournament. All competitions were very dramatic and we could see an excellent fight between Janda and Ahonen. Due to the tie at the end of the tournament wrote Jakub the history for the second time, because it was for the first time the Four Hills Tournament had two winners. It was already the second victory for Czech Republic; the first one was Jiri Raska 35 years before.
World championship in Kulm at the beginning of 2006 brought Janda nice 7th place although he publicly said he don't like ski flights.
Janda's well-being has been disturbed close to the Olympic Games in Torino. It was cause Vasja Bajc and his proclamation not to go to OG because of discrepancies between people near to Janda and the Czech ski jumping section. Despite of this he fought and placed 10th and 13th.
Jakub tried to keep his position in the overall standing of WC during the next competitions counted into the Nordic Tournament and he succeeded. Although he finished 29th in the last competition in Planica it was sufficient to write the history of Czech ski jumping for the third time, because Janda as the first Czech managed to win the overall World Cup competition in an Olympic discipline.
Therefore we can use the phrase "The best for the best" and we could also call the cooperation between Jakub Janda and DaimlerChrysler Automotive Bohemia Ltd. (exclusive importer of Mercedes-Benz cars into Czech Republic) in the same way. General director Karl Schregle ceremonially handed over keys from Mercedes-Benz Viano 2.2 CDi to Jakub on January 24, 2006. Nobody expected at this time, it will bring home also the most valuable trophy - crystal globe for the best ski jumper of the season 2005/06. However Jakub will change this car for a new one in a short time: Mercedes-Benz Viano 2.2 CDi 4MATIC with all wheel drive (4x4) that will be equipped with navigation system, DVD player with LCD display, 6x CD-changer and parking assistant as wished.
"We wish Jakub Janda, historically the first Czech winner of the World Cup, so that his Mercedes shall drive him to many victories and successes not only in his professional career" said Karl Schregle.

Jakub Janda finished fantastic season! |
Jakub managed to have a fantastic season. He took everything except the winter Olympic Games medal. The best result achieved was to win the World Cup. This triumph treasures many much higher than OG-medal, because this award means to be the world best ski jumper of the season. Jandys won this award as the first Czech jumper in the history. He managed to put up with shape drop-off after the Olympic Games competition within the Nordic tournament and attacked definitely Janne Ahonen in Lahti on his home ground!
He and Janne wrote the history as the 4-Hills tournament winners, because it happened never before this tournament had two winners. Their tight fight admired the entire ski jumpers world.
Jandys won the summer Grand Prix that was the first great primacy. Excellent shape allowed Jandys to beat the whole jumper's world and also to show "super jumps" without showing any tiredness. There were plenty of "experts" saying his shape will disappear during the winter season but they weren't right.
Time to relax came up in these days. Kuba will return back to see his family and close friends, he didn't have time to see during the season. He will finally have some time to do his hobbies. Free time laps away so fast; this year even faster because of sponsorship duties. Jakub, enjoy your free time because you merit this!

Although historical moment - Jandys stayed cool |
"I'm OK nothing special happens inside", said cool Jakub Janda after today's decision competition. "I'll enjoy it after as much as winner's ceremony with all its official processes."
He wasn't so happy with his performance and thought that Janne could take advance: "The jump didn't turn out well; it was no wind to help. I was disappointed, because I wanted to jump a proper one. I expected Janne to jump much longer, so it would be very interesting for spectaculars. I was ready to fight more."
Jandys wasn't nervous at last after long time. Janne - his most serious opponent - embraced Jandys after the competition: "I care for this, because he (Janne Ahonen) is very ironhanded man. It was a fantastical gesture and it stands for a big compliment!"
He fears only one thing in the future; big pressure from fans point of view: "They will expect at least the same performance level or even better, it will represent also much bigger pressure from media."

First feelings - Planica |
Czech Republic became 8th country only that will have ski jumping World cup winner. "My height is still 178cm and I've got the same weight" said after the competition Jandys
It is still question if Jandys goes also for the Saturday's competition - the last one in this year's World cup. "It depends on weather. We'll discuss it together with Vasja but anyway I'd like to start. Let's wait for wind strength…I saw Janne, he jumped long distance but I didn't care for. We could have tomorrow much more dramatic show and this could be very good for spectaculars."

Last competition of World Cup championship - Planica |
Jakub Janda jumped during the qualification round 185m and placed 37th...
Jakub Janda rewrote the history of ski jumping and won the World Cup championship as the first Czech ski jumper. His most serious opponent Janne Ahonen didn't manage to place at least 2nd place during the next to the last competition and doing so he lost any theoretical chance to win the World Cup trophy. He scored 11th; Jandys was 29th.

Planica - first training |
Jakub Janda beats all Czech jumpers and scored 13th place after the first round (190.5m) although he had to jump from the lowest in-run position. Primosz Peterka jumped the same distance being almost 2km/h faster then Jakub. Jandys scored 27th position after the 2nd round.

Jakub didn't jump in Bischofshofen… |
It was obvious several times in this season how non-professional are our responsible officials, who refused to arrange at least one domestic hill. (Leos Skoda: "An arrangement of a hill would cost us too much effort!") The planned training in Bischofshofen, where Jakub should test skies and ski boots, didn't take part. During the Wednesday night came snowfall in Bischofshofen and domestic organizers refused to arrange the hill due to alleged defect on technical equipment.
Jakub Janda goes to Planica for the World cup. He did his best possible effort and is in advance of 175 points, which is almost not possible to catch up. If his lead would be less or even he would be forced to catch up then would this yesterday's "snag" probably blast everything. You could jump up to 150m at Harrachov hill. All our jumpers could be prepared for Planica (as all the jumpers from other countries, who doesn't have the world cup leader but can arrange their big hills) and trainers would be significantly quieter. Because what it matters for in Planica is not only the big glass globe, but mainly jumpers' health!

Jakub Janda goes for his last event of this year's season |
Its usual for Jakub Janda to spend every minute of his free time at home during the season to be together with his family and friends. So was it also after his comeback from the Nordic tournament. He visited together with his girlfriend Lucie Saky bar in Frenstat to see his friends. They discussed and planned but mainly wanted to forget at least for a moment the championship stress. It has been discussed also about the new motorbike Honda Shadow, which should enlarge Jakub's collection of cars. The mandatory equipment included the helmet has been donated by UVEX, so it lacks shoulder protector only, which will Jakub buy at Saky. But before the motorbike season starts, it needs also sun and warm weather.
The world championship draws to a close; the last event in Planica stays ahead for the best jumper in this season. This event will be crowned on Saturday afternoon, when the results of this year's season will be enounced. Jakub goes today to Bischofshofen for one day training and then flies over to Planica.
He won't be alone in Planica. Frenstat is kicked around and there will travel many supporters to Slovenia to help Jakub in his last step. Nobody questions that Jakub follows up with his famous wallachien ancestors and his return back to Frenstat will be great

World cup Holmenkolen - Jandys scores 5th place |
Jandys has beaten his greatest rivals Ahonen and Kuettel. Kuettel has no chance any more to be a world cup winner and Janne Ahonen has moreover a theoretical chance only. He is losing 175 points and his only chance would be at least to win one event and to be 2nd after the second one, if Jakub wouldn't start in Planica or if he wouldn't score any single point.
Jakub comes back to Frenstat pod Radhostem tomorrow in the morning

Lillehammer - Jandys forges ahead! |
Jakub Janda scores 17th place and Janne Ahonen lost additional points because he got 25th place! It was almost calm in Lillehammer during noon but afternoon sun set going a very unpleasant windy weather in hills over the city. Wind twisted and Jandys as well as Ahonen and Kuettel had bad luck in the 1st round. Jakub had to jump his 2nd jump with 2.5 m/s back wind because Tepes hurried extremely fast giving green light.

Lillehammer welcomes World Cup Competition for the third time in this Saison |
Jakub lost the first competition here with 0.1 points difference to Kuettel but after one competition he had to "borrow" the yellow jersey to Kranjec, he received it back as he became the world cup leader again. From this time onwards he is wearing it until now! He declassed the whole ski jumper world just in Lillehammer beating the second Bystoel with 16.5 points lead. The polish TV sportscasters renamed Jandys to Jakub Janda the Great at this time. Let's hope they kept some superlatives also for the Friday competition. Should everybody agree on fact the Lillehammer hill was convenient to Kuettel and Ahonen in December, then Jakub reigned on this hill! You can see the satisfied Jakub on the archive photo.
